As most of you that follow our social media accounts will know, I had the pleasure of taking a small group of lifters that I've been working with at Cheshire Barbell to the Northern Weightlifting Open today. To say all four of them did me proud is an absolute understatement! We came away with 4 medals!!
It was everyone's very first weightlifting competition! All I asked of them was to focus not on achieving Personal Bests, but on looking the best. I wanted them to display their competance despite their beginner status. It certainly worked. All four achieved PBs in at lest one of their lifts and their performance was credit to all of their efforts over the last few months.
Dan (16 years old - Junior) took 4th place overall in his session but took 1st in his category, with a 10 year gap between him and other competitors.
Clean & Jerk 74kg
Jack (16 years old - Junior) took 3rd place overall in the 85kg category but took 1st in his category, with a 5 year gap between him and other competitors.
Clean & Jerk 85kg
Penny achieved 3rd place in her weight category and was awarded the bronze medal.
Clean & Jerk 48kg
Aimee took 1st place in her weight category and was awarded the Gold!
Clean & Jerk 79kg
We are looking to take to the 'stage' one more time this year with a possible 7 lifters entering the Welsh Weightlifting Open in Bangor on the 18th of November, 2 of which where also competing today in the Masters Category of the Rainhill Trials. We also have a couple of athletes working towards the British Indoor Rowing Championships in December and another training for an Open event in the build up to next years Invictus Games.
I am extremely proud of all those who took part in an event today and can only thank them for allowing me to be part of their journey.
GO TEAM CBB!!
